Not a Fan of the New Address Bar Location of the Safari Browser? Rewind !

As you might have seen on one of my previous posts, I recently upgraded the operating system of my iPhone to iOS 15. I wanted to explore whether there were any changes on Safari and when I opened Safari my initial reaction was “Wait, why is the address bar at the bottom? Can I change it back to the way it was originally?”.

Apparently, I saw another person baffled by this on Twitter and thought of sharing a fix for this with you. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Tap on Settings and then on “Safari”.
  2. Scroll down to the “TABS” section.
  3. Tap on “Single Tab” as shown in Figure 2 below.

Once this setting is selected, you should be able to see the address bar at the top as it used to be. This is shown in Figure 3 below.

Hope this helps.

Did Apple just Break iTunes for Windows? Not exactly…

Along with iOS, iPadOS and other firmware updates, Apple also released a new update for iTunes for Windows.

Figure 1 : iTunes version 12.12.0.6

After seeing this on a headline on social media, I updated my iTunes via Microsoft Store on my computer. When I tried to listen to some music, iTunes could not be opened and I got an error message stating that iTunes has to be reinstalled because some of the required files were missing.

Without realizing that this was a bug, I uninstalled iTunes via Control Panel and reinstalled it via Microsoft Store. The issue was not resolved. Sigh. After researching a resolution on the web, I came across a fix and would like to share it with you.

  1. On your Windows computer, click on Start and type “Language”.
  2. From the app suggestions, click on “Language Settings”.
  3. Under “Windows display language”, select “English (United States)” from the drop-down menu as shown in the figure below.
  4. Close the “Settings” window and open iTunes.

N.B. The issue would not be fixed with any other English setting such as “English (United Kingdom)”.

Hope this rectifies your error with iTunes not opening. Maybe Apple or Microsoft will release an update for this in the future.

Notifications not Grouping after iOS 15 Update? Let’s Fix That

After updating the firmware of my Apple iPhone to iOS 15, which was released on 20th of September 2021, I noticed that the notifications were not getting grouped as it used to on iOS 14. I would like to recommend the following procedure to get this rectified.

  1. On your iPhone, tap on “Settings” and then on “Notifications”.
  2. Scroll down and select the app where you would like to see the notifications grouped (In this example, I have selected “Mail”)
  3. In “Notification Grouping” under “LOCK SCREEN APPEARANCE”, select “By App” as shown in the figure below if it has been set to “Automatic”.

The only downside of this workaround is that the procedure has to be repeated for all apps that you desire for the notifications to be grouped. (N.B. There were no issues when the Notification Grouping setting was set to “Automatic” on iOS 14).

I hope that this would be fixed in a future iOS 15 update.
