You may have noticed that due to a recent Windows Update or a Graphics driver update, frame rates on certain games drop intermittently, even though you possess a PC with high specifications. Not to worry : There is an easy fix for this and I am going to share it with you.
Go to Control Panel.
Then click on “Hardware and Sound”.
Click on “Power Options” and then on “Change Plan Settings”.
After that click on “Change advanced power settings.
Then scroll down and click on “Processor Power Management” and then on “Maximum Processor State” and change the value in “Plugged In” from 100% to 99%. Finally click on “OK”.
Hooray ! You will no longer get random drops in frame rates. In case if you start getting them back, just change the fan profile to “Overboost” or something similar.
Some of my friends had an issue where the images on Instagram app on iPhone would not load on WiFi at home but they got loaded when using mobile data. They wouldn’t even load when using the Instagram website on Windows 10. In this post I have mentioned some steps that I took to troubleshoot the issue.
Changed the WiFi channel of the router.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Instagram app.
Made the phone forget the WiFi network and logged back into the network.
Installed firmware update on the iPhone.
Contacted the ISP for further assistance.
After contacting the ISP, the customer representative told me that it was something to do with WiFi. She said that when using mobile data, it was like as if the mobile phone was connected via a cable and when it is connected via WiFi, the signals travel through the air. Knowing very well that this explanation made no sense, I took the following steps:
Logged in to the Router Configuration Page on a web browser (Microsoft Edge, Firefox or Google Chrome).
Have you ever noticed that a few tracks in your iTunes library, which belong to the same album have got organised as if they are from two different (yet identical) albums? (By identical, what I mean is that the details such as “Album Artist”, “Album Title” and even “Album Artwork”). Today, I will show you how to get this solved.
First, make sure that your computer is running the latest version of Apple iTunes (The current version is 12.4.1). If the issue persists after updating, please follow the procedure given below:
In iTunes, locate the tracks that belong to the same album but have been organised into two separate (yet identical) albums.
Delete each track from the identical albums. When deleting tracks, click on “Delete Song” and then on “Keep File”. This will make sure that the files remain in the computer without their details (such as “Album Artist” and “Album Title”) getting affected.
Click on “File” and then on “Add to Library”.
When the Finder (in Mac OS X) or File Explorer” (in Windows) opens up, locate the files that need to be added.
Finally, select the files and click on “Open”.
After following this, you will notice that the tracks have now got organised into the same album.
Since 29th of July, I had been checking for the Windows update to download Windows 10 to my laptop and a week ago, I was finally able to receive it. The update process took about 45 minutes and it was worth the wait. I would like to share my experience of the latest operating system by Microsoft.
Looks good, right? I love the all new dark theme as it matches well with my wallpaper. The Start menu is back. Yay !! Alright, let me walk you through the update process. if you have been using Windows 8.1 via BootCamp in your Mac and have registered your free upgrade, just search for new updates on Windows Update. You don’t have to fear of losing data on either partition as I did not lose any of mine but it would be better to back up at least the important files before you start the upgrade process. Once the update is ready, start the download and the update process will start automatically. Remember that your laptop will restart for a few times, so every time it restarts, remember to press the alt (Option) key on the keyboard and select “Windows”. Once Windows 10 has been installed in your Mac and if you have the latest drivers for BootCamp , simply reinstall them because I think they get erased during the update process. If not, download the latest drivers from BootCamp utility in Mac OS X. As you can see in Figure 1 given above, most of your applications that ran on Windows 8.1 will be compatible with Windows 10 (for example, Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3 in my case). You might realise that a lot of disk space has been used up by the system when the new OS has been installed, so perform a disk clean-up according to the procedure given below :
Click on Start icon on the taskbar and type “Disk” and Disk Clean-up should appear. Click on that.
After the process of scanning files, click the “Clean up system files” button to switch the Disk Cleanup tool to extended mode.
Find and check the “Previous Windows installation(s)” item. If you need more space, check on items which state “Temporary…”
Since I only use Windows for games, I’m not going to explain about the personal assistant “Cortana”, so apologies in advance. Now let’s look at the new web browser in this operating system.
The new browser is called “Microsoft Edge” and is shown in Figure 2. It is quite fast and does not crash as its predecessor, Internet Explorer. However, the disadvantage is that add-ons and extensions such as Adblock Plus are still not compatible with Edge. However, Internet Explorer can still be used if this is an issue by simply clicking on the three dots at the top right corner and then selecting “Open with Internet Explorer”. Alternatively follow the procedure given below:
Click on Start icon on the taskbar and select “All Apps”.
Select “Windows Accessories”.
Select “Internet Explorer”.
You can also click on Start icon and then type “Internet Explorer” and click on it.
I hope this post was helpful and enjoy Windows 10 on your computer (Mac or PC).
